PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It refers to the application of positive behavioral interventions and systems to achieve socially important behavior change. (OSEP, 1999) It is a school wide system that uses a common purpose and approach to discipline, has a clear set of positive expectations and behavior, procedures for teaching expected behavior, a continuum of procedures for encouraging expected behavior, a continuum of procedures for discouraging inappropriate behavior and has procedures for on-going monitoring and evaluation. Students, teachers and parents will have expectations that they are to follow in all areas of the school including arrival, hallway, restroom, cafeteria, recess, dismissal, computer lab and assemblies. These expectations are posted throughout the school and will be enforced.
